Wellness Offerings for February & March 2007:

Hearing Loss: Signs, Symptoms, Causes & Solutions

Dr. Jayna Williams, Doctor of Audiology at Advanced Audiology, will discuss the signs, symptoms, types, and causes of hearing loss. She will also provide information on choosing the correct hearing aids and other treatment options. Stop by one of the following presentations at the senior center nearest you. All presentations are open to the public.

Cholesterol & Glucose Screenings

Your Whatcom County Council on Aging Wellness Department, in conjunction with Visiting Nurse Home Care, will be offering Blood Screenings at some of the Senior Centers in February and/or March 2007. Cholesterol, glucose & hemoccult blood screenings will be available:

Cholesterol Test includes: total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and Triglycerides. Fee: $20.00

Glucose Test is for blood sugar levels. Fee: $5.00

Both of these screenings are fasting tests, meaning you should not eat or drink anything except water 12 hours prior to the test. Each is done with a finger stick and the results are available before you leave your appointment.

A take-home Hemoccult Test (a test for blood in the stool) will also be available. Fee: $5.00

The Blood Screens are available to senior center members AND the public at-large.

Bellingham Senior Activity Center Wednesday February 21 8:30 -10:00 a.m. Blaine Community/Senior Center Thursday February 22 8:30 -10:00 a.m. Everson Senior Center Friday February 23 9-10:30 a.m. Ferndale Senior Activity Center Wednesday February 28 8:30 -10:00 a.m. Lynden Community/Senior Center Wednesday March 14 8:30 -10:00 a.m.
